Energy Saving Tips

1. Review how you heat and cool your home. In Australia we spend a considerable amount of energy keeping cool in summer. Effective insulation and good ventilation is the best way to keep your energy bill low. Auscarbon International currently offers a comprehensive assessment service in most capital cities.

At the first reasonable opportunity upgrade your heater or air conditioner to an energy efficient model.

2. Use solar power, Australia is a fantastic country for solar systems. Auscarbon International can install small, medium and large solar systems equipped with smart meters that can wind your meter backwards. The more power you can put back into the grid the less your bill and the less coal is burnt.

3. Install a Solar Hot Water or mixed System. Heating hot water is where most houses consume their power. Auscarbon International strongly recommends the adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar hot water systems. Both State and Federal Governments are offering generous rebates for their purchase. They are mandatory on new houses.

4. Reduce your hot water usage by installing a AAA Rated water-efficient products such as showerheads, taps. Taking shorter showers and using cold water clothes washing also helps.

5. Replace ordinary incandescent light globes 100w, 75w, 40w with compact fluorescent light globes (CFLs) energy saving light bulbs. While these globes are significantly more energy efficient they contain mercury vapor which is a terrible poison to have in your home.
The globes must be disposed of responsibly do not put them in the rubbish. At the moment they largely council land fills and leach back into the environment.

6.Recycle everything you can. Divert garden and food wastes from landfill to composting (either at home or through a Council scheme). Minimise waste of packaging and materials - refuse, reduce, re-use, recycle.

7. Switch off appliances when you are not using them at the wall. Appliances on stand by i.e that are still turned on at the wall keep using electricity.

8. Drive less, try car pooling. When possible use public transport, bicycle, walk.

9. Switch to a Green Energy Source. Auscarbon International is currently researching the best options in green electricity. We will recommend a supplier soon. In the mean time, if possible get natural gas connected to your house. It is far better for the environment than electricity generated from coal and cheaper.
